Dream Vacation

Home

Alright, so here's my dream vacation. In short, I want to travel to these places:

As you can probably tell, these are on completely different sides of the world. How will I travel to them in one vacation? I'll figure that out. But here is the reasons why I want to travel to these places.

China

This is the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong, China. In this photo you can see a few cities, but notably Guangzhou and Shenzhen, two of the largest cities in China. Just below this photo is Hong Kong, too! I would love to travel here, and just be so close to multiple major metropolitan areas. Shanghai's tall buildings and modern infrastructure fascinate me too. Chongqing is similar but it's a lot weirder and a bit of a strange city in particular. Tianducheng has a fake version of Paris, aka BETTER Paris, because it lacks tourists, scammers, and also smelly french people!! (joke)

Japan

I think Japan is a bit overrated, but I would love to go there anyway. It's not the culture that attracts me, but just the futurism and the history of it. Japan is a very modern place, and it is, in my opinion, the definition of a first world country. It has the world's busiest railway network, and you know I love trains. Osaka Airport is on a completely man-made island separated from the mainland by a single bridge, and it fascinates me how they did that. The history of Japan also interests me - I'd like to travel to Nagasaki because of the atomic bomb and Hashima Island. And Tokyo? It's the center of it all. And also it has the 634 metre tall Tokyo Skytree, tallest and coolest tower in the world (my personal opinion). So yeah, that's why I want to go to Japan!

The Philippines

While the culture of Japan wasn't what attracted me there, the culture of the Philippines IS what attracts me there. It's kind of the opposite of Japan really.
The Philippines has a great culture. I've heard from all sources that Filipino people are extremely friendly. Actually, I've spoken to lots of Filipino people, and everyone i've spoken to has been great, friendly, and just pure amazing. The fact that the people are so welcoming makes me so happy and makes me want to learn more about them, and eventually visit the Philippines. I also think the Philippines has some great natural wonders, as it's an island archipelago similar to my home country, New Zealand. Overall, I want to travel to the Philippines because of the friendly people, culture and natural wonders.

The Netherlands

I'm interested in urban planning. All urban planners love the Netherlands. Hence why it's here. I do genuinely wanna travel to the Netherlands for the urban planning. It's just so satisfying seeing good urban planning practices, especially coming from a country littered with large highways and suburbs. But there's also other factors! Similar to Japan & China, there is great public transport and it is all very modern. I've heard Utrecht & Amsterdam have decently modern infrastructure combined with some beauty within the architecture of the buildings. Similar to the Philippines, The Dutch countryside is also super beautiful, as seen with the attached photo. It also has some of the world's best museums, like the Anne Frank Huis and the Van Gogh Museum. Overall, I want to travel to the Netherlands for the urban planning, public transport, good museums, beautiful towns and beautiful countryside.

Africa

Africa simply amazes me. It's such a diverse continent. It's also the origin of the human race. A few years back, I jokingly prepared a trip to Equatorial Guinea, which is a Spanish Speaking country in West Africa. Obviously I threw that out of the window, but now I would seriously like to visit Africa. A few countries i'd like to visit, and why, would be:

  1. Cote D' Ivoire - Natural Beauty, Abidjan
  2. Botswana - Culture, relative safety & peacefulness
  3. Tunisia - Carthage, the Sahara Desert
  4. Kenya - Nairobi National Park
  5. Gabon - Dozens of rainforests and beautiful parks
I love Africa as a whole. I wish I could just go on a tour of the whole continent, but sadly geopolitics is preventing me from doing that. It's a great place. Overall, I want to travel to Africa because it is probably the most stunning and diverse place on the planet.

Argentina, Uruguay and Chile

These 3 countries are at the bottom of South America, and are as close as you get to my home country New Zealand while still travelling to another part of the world. Another urban planning rant, but the grid design of Argentinan cities is pretty awesome. It also looks really cool from above. Uruguay has some great beaches and I've heard it's a very culturally rich place, with a lot of art deco influences. And finally, Chile has the Atacama Desert (one of the driest places on Earth), and towering mountains that remind me of home. Two cities I would also love to go to are Ushuaia and Punta Arenas because they are the southernmost cities in the world. You know, I'd have Antarctica on this list, but I probably wouldn't travel there to be honest. Overall, I want to travel to these 3 countries because of their natural beauty, familiarity and proximity to Antarctica.

Conclusion

I want to travel the world. I wish I could travel everywhere, but unfortunately geopolitics is limiting me, plus I worry my ARFID would be frowned upon in a few places. So yeah, hopefully you liked my list. My family is interested in travelling to Europe, to places like France, Spain, Italy, you know the drill, but I fear they are too touristy, if you know what I mean. I live in a tourist town, and I know the pain of tourists, so I don't want to go to very touristy places. They remind me of home. I have heard that Chongqing, Tokyo & Amsterdam (all on this list) are quite touristy places, so will I travel to them with that in mind? Yeah, probably. Anyway, now that you know where I want to travel, hopefully you can give me more tips about these places! You just need to contact me here. I'd especially be happy if you lived in one of my top travel destinations! I'd like to hear about it!! Anyway that's it. You can leave this page now.
